Longyearbyen Camping our guests the following services:

  • area for setting up tent - free of charge as long as the service building is locked all day (off-season), otherwise (season) against payment of the overnight stay price per person mentioned further.

and furthermore in addition during season, for guests:

  • Service building with sanitary facilities (WCs, washing basins, showers), cooking and eating room with electric stoves and sink, electric plugs (220V) - accessible at least during the official daily opening hours (on days with many customers, the attendant is entitled to limit the utilisation time of the cooking and eating room in order to faciliate access for all campsite users).

  • Rental of tents, sleepingbags and insulation mats - for summer use on the campsite, only. We have no specific winter camping gear for rent.

    Attention:
disposal of garbage from stays elsewhere (for instance from longer field expeditions) is not included in campsite fees.
  • Booking of excursions via the campsite attendant - partly even in the morning of the excursion day. Usually we offer also transfer from campsite to the starting point of excursions (for instance port).
  • Sale of some kiosk articles (postcards, posters, guide books, etc.).

Prices
If not stated differently, the following prices are meant during season and per person and "day", begun "days" count as full "days" - so we do not offer reduced rates for half nights, hours, etc. (this we leave to certain other etablissements). We define the division between two days in this context as 14:00 o´clock, similar as also in hotels. Seasonally differing prices are due mostly to differences in energy consumption (heating) in different parts of the year:

  • Use of campsite, per person and begun day, March - May: nkr 150.--.
  • Use of campsite, per person and begun day, March - May, including sleeping/staying inside the service building over night from 23:00-08:00, in sleepingbag on floor of main room, limited capacity and prior booking needed: nkr 250.--
  • 3 pallets for under the tent (preventing downmelt/intruding meltwater), per day (usually of interest in spring): nkr 50.--
  • Use of campsite, per person and begun day, June - August 31st: nkr 100.--
  • Use of campsite, per person and begun day, September 1st to end of season: nkr 100 with booking before August 1st, respectively nkr 150 without booking before August 1st.
  • Use of campsite, per person under age of 13 and begun day, June - September: gratis
  • Token (coin) for 5 minutes warm water in shower, to be inserted into slot-machine of the shower: nkr 10,--
  • Tent rental, per tent and begun day in summer season (see "reservation of equipment" further down): nkr 100,--
  • Rental of sleeping bag (summer season, see "reservation of equipment" further down), per person: 1st day nkr 50.--, each following day nkr 30,--
  • Insulation mat (see "reservation of equipment" further down), per day: nkr 10,--
  • Telephone – short local call: nkr 5,--
Tip: Longyearbyen Camping is within range of the local Norwegian GSM cellphone nets, so you can also use your private cellphone.
  • Waste (also: residual fuel): Longyearbyen Camping is no dump for waste, which has nothing to do with a stay on the campsite - for example brought from a longer tour. We reserve the right to charge for such extra waste, if we accept it at all. This applies especially for problematic waste like fuel, which is costly for us regarding delivery to the waste treatment facility in town.

Discounts and groups:
We give discounts under the following conditions: groups of 4 or more persons, which registered themselves well in advance in writing, and with whom we reached a special agreement on prices in advance. As a further rule, we give discounts usually only on longer group stays on the campsite, for instance a week.
To spell it out: groups arriving on the campsite without prior registration and agreement on prices will not get a discount normally.

Storage of items for a period within our season:
For storing items, paying guests of the campsite can use the space under the service building free of charge, which is accessible through some low doors. Surrounded by planks with gaps for ventilation, this area is exposed to wind, possibly also to blown-in drizzle or snow, ground is sooty and sometimes moist, so it is advisable to use waterproof packing around your belongings for storage. Use of this storage area is entirely at own risk, limited to the duration of our season and the attendant can deny storage which he considers inappropriate (huge volumes, etc.). Storage of items exceeding the period of the season needs a special agreement and payment, as we have made the experience that otherwise a high fraction of stored items stays there for years.
Storage of inflammable liquids and gasses (alcohol, fuel), explosives, ammunition, other dangerous chemicals or weapons is not allowed under or in the service building. In certain cases, a special agreement with the attendant can be discussed.

Unattended tent on campsite:
For an absence of a few days, you can leave your tent standing on the campsite without charge (not valid for rental tents). Make sure, however, that it will be moved to a new spot after a week on one place. We do not take any responsibility for tents standing unattended, nor any duty for looking after them (for instance in  a storm).

We do not offer:
Rental of cabins, places for mobile homes and caravans, washing machine (commercial laundry in Longyearbyen), bicycle rental (we have a few bikes, but in poor condition - better bicycles for rent in Longyearbyen).

Payment:
Longyearbyen Camping accepts for payment norske kroner (nkr, NOK) in cash, only. No credit cards, no cheques, no ec-cards. If you manage to talk us into accepting other currencies, nevertheless, you have to expect that we use a, for you, rather disadvantageous exchange rate.
Payment is to be done in advance, at least for each begun day.

Registration and setting up tent
To keep bureaucratic hazzles minimal, you can set up your tent and use the campsite facilities immediately also without being registered, if you should arrive outside the office hours (see note on and in service building). In return for this easy-going trust in our guests, we expect you make yourself familiar with the campsite rules and to register and pay unasked during the nearest following office hours. See also » Öffnet einen internen Link im aktuellen FensterFAQ - Frequently Asked Questions for Reservation/Registration
As part of the registration, you may get a mark to be placed visibly and closest possible to your tent as an additional proof of payment. In times with more tents on the campsite, this helps us to keep an overview and saves you avoidable additional checks of whether you have registered and paid already.

Reservations ...
For individuals and small groups (up to 8 persons), a prior reservation of space on the campsite in mid-June to September 10th is not necessary.
For stays in later September/October, a reservation is recommendable also for individuals before August 1st. We may close by mid-September, if there aren´t sufficient prereservations for stays after September 10th by August 1st of the same year.
Also for stays in the spring season and until mid-June, a reservation is recommended.
For groups of more than 8 persons
, a reservation is needed for all parts of the season, at least a month in advance. Due to the limited capacities of the service building, a coordination of times spent in the cooking and eating room and also for showering (hot water capacity) is usually needed between the group and the campsite attendant.
For sleeping inside the service building in April/May, a reservation is highly recommendable, as we accept only few persons for this.

Reservation of equipment
For a number of years, we have accepted reservations of equipment (tents, sleepingbags, mats, bicycles) on a trust basis, without prepayment. Unfortunately, this lead to an increasing number of cases with "no show" without cancellation information. This in return led to a number of cases, where we had to refuse reservations because of seemingly fully booked capacities, and then on the day, we had instead a surplus of materials due to "no shows". Therefore, we have decided to accept reservations only in combination with a prepayment. In case of a cancellation, the paid amount will be refunded, minus a cancellation fee of 30 % (minimum: NOK 500) and minus the eventual bank transfer costs for the refunding.
In case of rental of tent, your assistance with setting it up might be needed after your arrival.
Important with rental of equipment: we need to know your exact arrival data (date, time) to make sure that you get the material, or an alternative solution has to be agreed on.
