Neighbour Nature

Bird lagoon - evening light in late summer.
Red phalarope (female)
Driftice - sometimes also in summer.
Polar fox - a frequent summer visitor.

[Translate to English:] A very good reason for staying on Longyearbyen Camping, are the interesting neighbours both on the site and in its immediate surroundings. Some of these - by far not all - we would like to introduce to you on these pages with pictures and short texts and with some luck, you are likely to meet them (depending on season, of course) in a perimeter of probably less than 300 m from your tent.
No other accomodation in Longyearbyen can offer you anything close to this range of possible experiences of nature right in front of your "door" (tent entrance): and isn´t arctic nature a key reason for travelling to Spitsbergen ?
The special Svalbard reindeers graze on the campsite almost daily and the polar fox is a fairly regular visitor in summer. The bird lagoon right in front of the campsite is one of the prime birdspotting locations near Longyearbyen and the tundra offers in summer a wide range of plants including arctic flower species. By staying on Longyearbyen Camping, you live basically in nature, and accordingly good are the chances for interesting encounters.

For being at good terms with the neighbours, we put high emphasis on treating nature with respect. We are the visitors, and accordingly, we should be nice guests to the "locals". Nature is adapted to arctic conditions, but very fragile to other disturbances. This requires types of thoughtfulness and consideration, which are not necessary elsewhere, just like visiting a remote other culture. With the informations on this webside, we give you the possibility to prepare for a respectful encounter with our neighbours in arctic nature already before your visit to Spitsbergen.
In addition, the fragility of arctic nature is reflected in some strict environmental regulations
